Pregame Notes
– Vanderbilt is in its 126th year of organized football.
– The Commodores wore the team’s new Deep Water uniforms; the uniforms were gray with gold numbers with the helmets featuring a gold anchor and chain.
– Georgia won the toss and deferred to the second half, Vanderbilt elected to receive and defend the south goal.
– Attendance was 37,185.
– Vanderbilt captains for the game were Spencer Pulley, Andrew Williamson and Ryan White.
Team Notes
– Saturday afternoon’s game was the 76th between Vanderbilt and Georgia, the Commodores are 19-55-2 all time vs. the Bulldogs.
– The Dores are 3-8 in the team’s last 11 SEC openers dating back to a 28-24 win at Arkansas in 2005.
– Saturday’s game was broadcast on CBS, marking the first time Vanderbilt was featured on CBS since 2013 and just the third game on the network since 1982 when the Dores beat Auburn 25-13 in the Gator Bowl.
Individual Notes
– Jonathan Wynn made his first career start on defense, getting the nod at defensive end.
– Tommy Openshaw put the Commodores on the scoreboard in the second quarter with a 47-yard field goal, his third field goal of the season.
– True freshman Jordan Griffin saw his first collegiate action, making a tackle on a kick off in the second quarter. Five true freshmen have now seen action for the Dores this season.
– Tommy Openshaw tacked on a 41-yard field goal later in the second quarter, giving him two field goals in each of the first two games of the season.
– Latevius Rayford caught five passes for 41 yards in the first half.
– Oren Burks broke up two passes in the first half and made three tackles.
– Jay Woods registered his first career sack early in the third quarter forcing a fumble on third down.
– Latevious Rayford caught his first touchdown pass of the season, snagging a seven-yard screen pass for the Dores’ first TD of the game.
– Ralph Webb caught a career-high seven passes in the game for a career-high 57 yards.
– Johnny McCrary set new career-highs with 295 passing yards, 24 completions and 50 pass attempts.
– Ralph Webb led the Commodores with 125 all-purpose yards, gaining 68 on the ground and 57 yards receiving.
– Stephen Weatherly led the Dores with eight tackles on the afternoon, making six solo stops and two tackles for loss.
– DeAndre Woods caught a career-high three passes for a career-best 57 yards.
– Trent Sherfield’s 44-yard catch in the fourth quarter was the longest reception of his career.
Offensive Notes
– The Commodores ran 24 offensive plays in the first quarter while Georgia ran just seven plays, for the first half the Dores ran 50 plays to the Bulldogs 23.
– VU passed for 107 yards in the first half.
– Eight different Vanderbilt receivers caught passes in the game led by Ralph Webb’s and Latevious Rayford’s seven catches each.
– The offense ran 89 plays on the afternoon, racking up an even 400 yards. Through two games this season, VU has gained 793 total yards compared to 445 yards of total offense through the first two games
of last season.
– Vanderbilt’s offense churned out 21 first downs, the team’s most since gaining 33 against Old Dominion last season. The Dores have 41 first downs in the first two games.
– The Commodores were 3-for-4 on fourth down and are now 5-for-7 on the season.
Defensive Notes
– The Commodores held Georgia to just 25 yards passing in the first half.
– The VU defense held UGA to 0-for-4 on third down in the first half.
– Vanderbilt held Georgia to 141 yards passing and no TDs through the air.
– The Bulldogs were held to just 4-for-13 on third down for the Vandy defense.
Special Teams Notes
