Vanderbilt rising sophomore Cindy Ha rallied from two holes down with five holes to play to win her round of 64 match at the U.S. Amateur at the Portland Golf Club in Portland, Ore. Rising senior Jennifer Hahn, who tied for medalist honors in the two-round stroke play portion of the tournament Monday and Tuesday, dropped her opening match Wednesday, 4 & 3.
Ha trailed Aneka Seumanutafa by two holes after the par-four, 377-yard 13th, but then made three straight birdies which in turn won her the next three holes to take a one-up lead with two holes to play. The two halved their final two holes, which sent Ha to the round of 32 with a 1-up victory.
Hahn was all square with Vanessa Ha through three holes in her match on Wednesday, but Ha made four straight birdies to pull away from the match. In all, Ha made seven birdies in 15 holes played.
Cindy Ha will take on Elizabeth Tong at 9:30 a.m. Pacific time in her round of 32 match Thursday.
