The SEC led the nation in women’s basketball attendance in 2014-15 and became just the second conference in NCAA history to top the one million mark.

The total (1,011,451) is the fourth-best by any conference in NCAA history — and Vanderbilt certainly helped play a role in the SEC’s success.

The Commodores averaged 3,552 in attendance last season and ranked No. 30 in the nation. Vanderbilt — which has ranked among the Top 30 in each of the past 10 seasons — was one of nine SEC teams to rank among the top 50 this season.

South Carolina led the country in home attendance at 12,293 fans per game. This is the first time that a school other than the University of Tennessee or the University of Connecticut has led the nation in attendance since 1994.

The other SEC schools who ranked among the Top-50 included: No. 2 Tennessee (10,375); No. 7 Kentucky (6,379); No. 17 Texas A&M (5,034); No. 27 Mississippi State (3,755); No. 30 Vanderbilt (3,552); No. 34 Georgia (3,237); No. 41 LSU (2,839); and No. 49 Alabama (2,550).

South Carolina’s attendance in 2014-15 jumped nearly 6,000 fans per game from its 2013-14 total, going from 6,371 to more than 12,000 fans per game. This is the second straight year that South Carolina has led the nation in most improved attendance, having increased 2,419 fans per game during the 2013-14 season.

Joining South Carolina in most improved attendance is Mississippi State. The Bulldogs increased their average attendance by over 1,400 fans per game, going from 2,321 in 2014 to 3,755 in 2015.
