NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Sydney Campbell and Astra Sharma of the Vanderbilt women’s tennis team have been selected by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) to compete in the first national collegiate championship of the 2015-16 season; the inaugural Oracle/ITA Masters.
The Commodore duo will travel to the west coast, with play taking place at the Malibu Racquet Club in Malibu, Calif. Sept. 18-20. Campbell and Sharma help comprise 16 of the top men and women’s singles players in the country. Eight of the most outstanding men and women’s doubles teams will also be in attendance, with consolation action for each of the four events.
Several familiar faces will be competing in the Oracle/ITA Masters with 2014 NCAA Singles Champion Danielle Collins of Virginia and the SEC’s very own back-to-back NCAA Doubles champion duo of Maya Jansen and Erin Routliffe of Alabama all in the mix.
While fourteen singles and two doubles teams have been selected, wild card selections and doubles at-large selections still upcoming. The ITA announced that the entire field is to be announced closer to the event.
The winners of each draw (women’s singles, women’s doubles, men’s singles, women’s doubles) will earn an automatic bid to the 2015 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championship. Last season the ‘Dores sent a quartet to Flushing, NY with Campbell, Courtney Colton, Gonzales Austin and Rhys Johnson all representing Vanderbilt in the premiere event.
