Radford stays alive in Nashville Regional, will face VU on Sunday night

Radford came up empty during numerous scoring opportunities Sunday afternoon against Indiana, but the Highlanders capitalized when it mattered most.

With the game tied in the top of the eighth, Shan Johnsonbaugh delivered an RBI single and Josh Reavis added a sacrifice fly to help send No. 2-seeded Radford to a 5-3 victory over the No. 3-seeded Hoosiers in an elimination game in the Nashville Regional.

Radford (45-15) — which earned the win despite leaving 11 runners stranded — now advances to play Vanderbilt on Sunday night at 8:15 p.m. Radford will need to beat the Commodores twice in order to advance to the Super Regionals. The if-neccessary game is scheduled for Monday night.

Radford reliever Kyle Palmer earned the win against Indiana (35-24) by working 2 2-3 scoreless innings. Palmer, who improved to 3-0, finished with one walk and three strikeouts. Ryan Meisinger closed it out with two scoreless innings for his 17th save.

The Highlanders owned a 3-0 lead after scoring a run in the top of the fifth, but Indiana rallied to tie the game with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. It stayed tied until Radford plated the decisive runs — both unearned — in the eighth.

Johnsonbaugh, the Radford leadoff hitter, went 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI while accounting for half of the Highlanders’ six hits. Reavis and Patrick Marshall drove in two runs each for the Highlanders, who are playing in the NCAA Regionals for the first time in team history.

Brian Wilhite had two hits for Indiana.
