Nashville, Tenn. – Junior Carson Fulmer has been named Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week for the second straight week.
Fulmer tossed his second consecutive complete game on Thursday night against Alabama in Hoover, Ala. The Crimson Tide rallied for one run on two hits in the first inning before Fulmer shut down the Tide over the final eight innings, allowing no hits and no runners past first base. Fulmer matched his career-best with 14 strikeouts in his second two-hitter of the season. The complete game was his third of the season and wrapped up the pitching triple crown with his eighth straight win.
Fulmer finished the regular season leading the SEC in wins (11), ERA (1.51) and strikeouts (132) to become just the fourth pitcher in league history to win the crown. He is the first pitcher since Tennessee’s Luke Hochevar in 2005 to lead the league in all three major categories.
Fulmer has recorded 11-plus strikeouts in six of his 14 starts this season, including two consecutive starts. The right-hander’s 14-strikeout performance on Thursday pushed him into a tie with Sonny Gray for the third-most in a single season in Vanderbilt history.
Fulmer and the Commodores return to action at the SEC Tournament beginning Wednesday. The Dores will take on the winner of South Carolina/Missouri in the day’s second game.
