Continuing a budding custom, Vanderbilt head coach Melanie Balcomb will make a trip to Colorado this week to resume her duties as a member of the USA Basketball Junior National Team Committee.
Balcomb — who was appointed to the Committee for the 2013-16 quadrennium — will be in Colorado Springs for the USA Basketball Women’s National Team Trials that will take place May 14-16 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center.
The USA Basketball Women’s Junior National Team Committee is chaired by Chattanooga head coach Jim Foster, who coached at Vanderbilt from 1992-2002. The committee also includes NCAA appointees Lindsay Gottlieb (California), Joi Williams (UCF) and Balcomb, along with athlete representative Kara Lawson Barling, a 2008 Olympic gold medalist.
The U.S. Olympic Training Center will be hosting roughly 100 of the nation’s top basketball players at the Team Trials, as players vie for roster spots on numerous national squads, including the 2015 USA Women’s U19 World Championship Team and the USA Women’s World University Games Team, among others.
