Bridges, East, Woestmann receive Hampshire honor society membership

May 5, 2015

Three Vanderbilt seniors — offensive tackle Andrew Bridges, snapper Andrew East and linebacker-defensive end Kyle Woestmann — have been named to the 2015 National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society, the NFF and College Hall of Fame announced.

Bridges, East and Woestmann were among 825 scholar athletes across the nation to earn NFF’s Hampshire Honor Society membership, which has been awarded annually since 2007 for outstanding academic achievement.

Bridges, a product of Westminster School in Atlanta, earned 19 starts on the offensive line in 40 career appearances. He started at both left and right tackle during his Commodore career.

Bridges also achieved an impressive 3.47 cumulative GPA while majoring in mechanical engineering. A three-time Southeastern Conference academic honor roll recipient, Bridges completed his degree with honors earlier this month from the School of Engineering.

East, from North Central High School in Indianapolis, Ind., is regarded among the nation’s top long snappers, signing an undrafted free agent deal with the Kansas City Chiefs last weekend. East handled the Commodores’ punt and conversion snap responsibilities for all 51 games of his Vanderbilt career.

A finalist for the Wuerffel Trophy and member of the 11-person Allstate-American Football Coaches Association Good Works Team, East has excelled at a Vanderbilt undergraduate and postgraduate student. He completed a major in civil engineering last year from the School of Engineering, and is working toward a M.B.A. from Vanderbilt’s Owen School of Management. East holds a 3.5 GPA in his postgraduate studies. He is also a two-time SEC academic honor roll recipient.

Woestmann, from Walton High School in Marietta, Ga., has been one of the Commodores’ top defensive contributors for the last three years playing both defensive end and outside linebacker. He ended his collegiate career with 100 total tackles, 20.5 tackles for loss, 13 quarterback sacks and five forced fumbles.

Woestmann recently completed his undergraduate degree in communication studies from the College of Arts and Science, maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.20. He is a three-time SEC academic honor roll recipient.

The NFF Hampshire Honor Society is comprised of college football players from all divisions of play. The Hampshire Honor Society capitalizes on the NFF’s National Scholar-Athlete program by greatly expanding the number of scholar-athletes the NFF can recognize each year. The initiative has honored 5,752 student-athletes.

Since 2007, the following Vanderbilt players have earned NFF Hampshire Honor Society membership:

2015     Andrew Bridges, OL; Andrew East, SN; Kyle Woestmann, DE/LB
