NASHVILLE, Tenn. – With one game remaining in the regular season, Vanderbilt’s postseason fate remains in their hands. Win Sunday at Villanova and the Commodores assure themselves a spot in the BIG EAST Tournament. Lose and the Commodores’ postseason fate is out of their control.
Vanderbilt (7-8 overall and 4-2 in the conference) will face Villanova (8-6, 3-2 BIG EAST) at 11 a.m. CT Sunday at Villanova Stadium. The game will be available through the BIG EAST Digital Network, which can be accessed via the FOX Sports Go app.
The Commodores enter Sunday’s contest having won four straight in conference play. Vanderbilt defeated Marquette, 11-9, Wednesday to continue its hot streak.
Florida and Georgetown have already clinched spots in the four-team BIG EAST Tournament field. Vanderbilt is battling Villanova and UConn for the final two spots. UConn is tied with Vanderbilt at four wins after upsetting Florida on Saturday, while Villanova has three wins.
A Vanderbilt win Sunday secures a spot in the tournament, but a loss will leave the Commodores sweating out the UConn-Villanova match on April 25. Should Vanderbilt lose to Villanova, the Commodores would need Villanova to defeat UConn to give the Wildcats five conference wins and setup a tie between Vanderbilt and UConn at four wins. Vanderbilt would win the head-to-head tiebreaker over UConn due to its victory over the Huskies on April 12.
