TAKING ON THE REBELS
Vanderbilt welcomes Ole Miss back to Hawkins Field for the first time since 2012 when the Commodores swept the series against the Rebels to end the regular season. Vandy followed up the home sweep in 2012 with a sweep in Oxford in 2013 on the way to a SEC record 26-3 league mark. The two teams met last season in Hoover at the SEC Tournament with the Rebels eliminating Vandy with a 7-2 win. Vanderbilt is 52-51-2 all time against the Rebels dating back to a 6-5 win in 1900.

THE WRIGHT STUFF
Kyle Wright earned co-SEC Freshman of the Week honors for his two appearances last week. The big right-hander won both games he appeared in topping Wofford on Tuesday with five scoreless innings and picking up the win out of the bullpen on Sunday at Georgia. Wright dominated the Terriers over the first four frames before working out of a bases loaded jam in the fifth inning as the Dores recorded their seventh shutout of the season. Wright’s 2.1 scoreless innings on Sunday in Athens allowed the Commodores to comeback and take the lead to eventually sweep the Bulldogs with a 4-2 victory.

UNDER PRESSURE
Vanderbilt has put their opponents under pressure all year long with runners on base in 78.5% of the Commodores innings at the plate. In those innings with runners on base, the Dores have scored 48.5% of the time.

FIVE COMMODORES OPEN SEASON ON MLB ROSTER, 34 IN PRO BALL
Five former Commodores opened the major league season on MLB rosters headlined by Detroit’s David Price and Oakland’s Sonny Gray, who both received Opening Day starts for their respective teams. Price and Gray combined for 16.2 scoreless innings, allowed six hits and struck out eight with one walk in earning the win in their teams’ games. Ryan Flaherty hit a home run in the opener for Baltimore as the team’s starting shortstop. Pedro Alvarez opened the season as Pittsburgh’s first baseman in Cincinnati. Mike Minor and Antoan Richardson started the season on the disabled list for the Braves and Rangers, respectively. The minor league season begins on Thursday with 28 more former Commodores set to begin their seasons. Casey Weathers returns after missing the 2014 season with a new team in Triple-A Columbus (Cleveland). First round pick Tyler Beede begins his first full professional season in Single-A San Jose while College World Series hero John Norwood heads to Single-A Greensboro to begin his pro career.
