Nashville, Tenn. – Kyle Wright earned his first weekly award from the Southeastern Conference being named SEC Freshman of the Week for his two appearances last week.
Wright picked up two wins in his two outings last week beating Wofford on Wednesday and Georgia on Sunday. In his start against the Terriers on Tuesday, the Huntsville, Ala. native turned in five scoreless innings as the Commodores shut out Wofford 6-0 for the Dores’ seventh shutout victory of the year. Wright dominated the first four innings, scattering two hits before working out of a bases loaded jam in the fifth.
He earned his fourth win of the year and second of the week on Sunday at Georgia with 2.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen. For the week, Wright pitched 7.1 shutout innings to help the Commodores go 5-0 for the week for the third time this season.
The weekly honor is the second of the season for Wright, who garnered Tennessee Sports Writers Association Pitcher of the Week honors on February 24. He joins Zander Wiel and Rhett Wiseman as the only Commodores this season to earn weekly honors from the league.
Vanderbilt hosts four games at Hawkins Field this week beginning tomorrow night against Lipscomb. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. on SEC Network+.
