The sixth-ranked Vanderbilt men’s golf team will host three other top 27 teams in their own Mason Rudolph Championship field this Friday through Sunday at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin. In all, 14 teams will compete in the 14th annual tournament which is named after Mason Rudolph, one of Middle Tennessee’s all-time great golfers and former head coach of the Commodores.

“It’s always so exciting to be able to host the Mason Rudolph Championship here at Legends Club,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. “The people here at Legends take great pride in helping us host a first-class event that attracts some of the top teams in the country. Coach Rudolph was a great man that loved the game of golf and it’s always an honor to host a tournament with his name on it.”

Four teams in the top 27, the Commodores, #15 Georgia Tech, #21 Kennesaw State, and #27 Alabama, will compete in the field, along with Ball State, College of Charleston, East Tennessee State, Georgia Southern, Indiana, Liberty, Louisville, Mercer, Notre Dame, and SMU. Three of the teams in this year’s field, Alabama, Georgia Tech, and SMU all advanced to match play in last year’s NCAA Championship at Prairie Dunes, with the Crimson Tide winning their second consecutive national championship.

The individual field is also stacked, with three of the top 15 U.S. collegiate amateurs competing, including the number one-ranked player, Alabama’s Robby Shelton. Vanderbilt’s Hunter Stewart (5th) and Georgia Tech’s Ollie Schniederjans (15th) are also ranked in the latest Palmer Cup U.S. rankings. There are also three players in the top 15 from Europe competing, including Adrian Meronk (#4, ETSU), Teremoana Beaucousin (#6, Kennesaw State), and Matthias Schwab of Vanderbilt (#10, Vanderbilt).

Vanderbilt’s lineup will include Stewart, Schwab, freshman Theo Humphrey, junior Carson Jacobs, and junior Zack Jaworski. Competing as individuals this week are senior Ben Fogler, sophomore Zach Herr, senior Jordan Janico, junior Spencer Ciesla, freshman Michael Decker, and junior John Voetsch.

“The guys are excited to be able to play at home in front of so many of our fans and supporters,” said Limbaugh. “However, our focus needs to continue to be on the right things and trying to be the best version of us. This is our final regular season event and we want to continue to take the right steps as a team heading into the next part of our season.”

Eighteen holes are scheduled Friday through Sunday on the Vanderbilt Legends Club’s South Course, which will be set up as a par-71, 7,100-yard format.
