WASHINGTON, D.C. — The grueling stretch of seven straight ranked opponents is over.

The Vanderbilt lacrosse team hopes their lengthy losing streak will come to an end, too.

The Commodores play Georgetown at 11 a.m. (CST) on Sunday at Multi-Sport Field. Vanderbilt (3-7, 0-1 BIG EAST) hopes to snap a seven-game losing streak. The Hoyas (1-7) have lost five straight as they enter their first BIG EAST game of the year. Both have been victims to rigid competition. Vanderbilt’s strength of schedule is ranked 14th by laxpower.com, and Georgetown ranks sixth.

“I never step into one locker room before a game believing we can’t win,” Vanderbilt coach Cathy Swezey said. “Even though we came off a bad loss Wednesday (to No. 20 Johns Hopkins) I’ve regrouped, the team has regrouped, we feel like we will win tomorrow. Certainly, they are a well-coached team. Georgetown is going to come out ready to play and they plan on winning, too. I never want to begrudge the competition but we always feel like we can do it. We feel ready.”

The teams have met six times before, with Georgetown winning all six. But this is the first game in the series since 2002.
