‘Dores emerge as the No. 10 team in the nation

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – In the latest ITA rankings the Vanderbilt women’s tennis team came in as the No. 10 in the nation. With Tuesday’s rankings, the Commodores own a spot in the top 10 for the first time this season. Last season, Vandy held a position in the top-10 for six weeks with the highest-ranking coming in at No. 5 on April 5, 2014.

Along with the new team ranking, Vandy boasts four doubles teams who appear in the latest ITA poll. Courtney Colton and Sydney Campbell maintained their position in the top 20 as the No. 18 tandem. Ashleigh Antal and Astra Sharma climbed six spots in this weeks rankings to No. 24. The duo currently own an undefeated 8-0 overall record, with six of those wins coming in conference action. Antal and Marie Casares make up the No. 50 doubles team, with Frances Altick and Sharma rounding out the Commodore doubles rankings at No. 67.

Five student-athletes also claim spots in the latest ITA singles rankings. Leading the quintet is Campbell who comes in at No. 12. The Franklin, Tenn. native owns an 29-10 overall record on the year with four wins in SEC action. Redshirt freshman Sharma improves to No. 71, boasting a 5-1 record in the No. 2 position of the Commodore lineup. Casares (98), Colton (100), and Altick (111) each continue to own positions as well in the latest ITA release.

The No. 10 Commodores continue conference action this weekend in the state of Alabama, as Vandy takes on the No. 49 Auburn Tigers Friday. The `Dores will take part in a top 10 showdown on Sunday against No. 9 Alabama.
