‘Dores head to UK for first SEC road trip

March 7, 2015

NASHVILLE, TENN. – The No. 13 Vanderbilt Commodores (7-4, 2-0) hit the road for their second weekend of SEC action. The `Dores travel to Lexington, Ky. to take on the No. 20 Wildcats (11-4, 2-0) Sunday at 8 a.m. CT. Vanderbilt has won the last 12-stright competitions against Kentucky.

“Everybody is good in the SEC,” said head coach Geoff Macdonald, “so we plan to just stay humble and keep working hard. Kentucky is an excellent team and it will be a challenge going up to Lexington. It looks like we’re going to be playing indoors, because it’s going to be a cold one.”

The Commodores are coming off last weekend’s two SEC wins against Mississippi State and Ole Miss. VU defeated MSU, 4-3, and Ole Miss in a 6-1 decision. The Wildcats beat both Mississippi schools as well last weekend, taking the Rebels in a 4-3 victory. The Wildcats defeats the Bulldogs last Sunday, 5-2.

Vandy travels with five ranked singles players. Sophomore Sydney Campbell leads the quartet at No. 11. Following Campbell are No. 63 Marie Casares, No. 98 Astra Sharma, No. 103 Courtney Colton, and No. 123 Frances Altick.

In addition to a promising singles contingent the `Dores bring a combination for four ranked doubles duos. No. 19 Sydney Campbell and Courtney Campbell are the topped ranked tandem for Vandy. Astra Sharma and Ashligh Antal came in at No. 33 in the latest ITA rankings.

The Wildcats boast one ranked player in No. 60 Nadia Ravita. UK is also home to one ranked doubles squad with Nadia Ravita and Aldila Sutjiadi coming in at No. 28.

Vanderbilt’s Colton/Campbell defeated Ravita/Sutjiadi previously this year during tournament season, taking the Ohio Valley Regional doubles title in a 6-2, 7-5 victory.

During their last meeting the `Dores defeated the Cats, 4-2 in Nashville.
