The fifth-ranked Vanderbilt men’s golf team begins its spring season this Saturday and Sunday at the SunTrust Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla., in an event hosted by the University of Florida.

The tournament will be played at the The Mark Bostick Golf Course, which will be set up as a par-70, 6,701-yard format. Thirty-six holes will be played on Saturday, with the final 18 holes being played on Sunday. Tee times begin Saturday morning at 8 a.m. CT with a shotgun start.

Traveling for the Commodores this week will be seniors Ben Fogler and Hunter Stewart, junior Carson Jacobs, sophomore Matthias Schwab, and freshman Theo Humphrey. This weekend’s tournament will be the first of the season for Schwab, who sat out the end of the 2013-14 season and the entire 2014 fall campaign with a back injury.

“I think the guys have done a good job this offseason working on each player’s area of improvement and I believe we are taking the right steps,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. “After a month of preparation, I know we are excited to have the opportunity to compete. It will be good to get Matthias back in the lineup for the first time since last season. I know he has worked hard to get himself ready to play. Our job now is to go have fun, play Vanderbilt golf, and hold ourselves and each other to the highest standards.”

Competing this weekend with the Commodores is Arkansas, College of Charleston, host Florida, number-two ranked Florida State, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Jacksonville, Liberty, Mercer, North Florida, UAB, UCF, and #21 South Florida.
