Baseball America preseason All-American teams

Baseball America named three Commodores preseason All-Americans on Monday with juniors Walker Buehler, Carson Fulmer and Dansby Swanson picking up the accolade.

The trio has been recognized by every media outlet as preseason All-Americans with Baseball America naming all three first team. The three players enter their junior seasons after monster sophomore seasons and standout summers. All three spent time with Team USA and Buehler was named the top prospect in the Cape Cod League for his work college baseball’s premier summer league.

Swanson earned All-American honors last season after helping lead the Commodores to the program’s first national title. He led the nation in doubles to match the school record with 27 and earned the Most Outstanding Player award at the College World Series. He enters the 2015 season as the team’s shortstop after starring at second base in 2014.

Fulmer’s transition to the starting rotation in 2014 helped turn around the Vandy season midway through conference play. The right-hander did not allow a run in his first 29.2 innings as a starter. In Omaha, Vandy won all three games he started, including the national championship game.

Buehler’s 12 wins led VU in 2014 and his 111 strikeouts are tops among returning pitchers. He starred in the team’s midweek starter role during the season before transitioning into the rotation in the postseason, where he tossed a nine-inning complete game against Oregon in the NCAA Regional championship game.

The Commodores will be recognized at half time of the men’s basketball game against Florida Tuesday night. The team opens the season inside Hawkins Field on Feb. 13 against Santa Clara as part of the Dores’ 35-game home schedule. For single-game ticket information call 615.322.GOLD or click here.
