Vanderbilt has been named the top team in the nation by two more polls this week with Baseball America and the USA Today Coaches’ poll placing the Commodores in the top spot in their respective polls.
The Dores lead the Southeastern Conference’s five teams in the Baseball America Top 25 followed by No. 2 LSU, No. 6 Florida, No. 13 South Carolina and No. 14 Mississippi State.
In the Coaches’ poll, Vandy leads a SEC pack of seven teams from the league. LSU (No. 4), Florida (No. 5), South Carolina (No. 10) and Mississippi State (No. 25) all join the Dores in both polls. Ole Miss checks in at No. 18 and Texas A&M at No. 23 according to the Coaches poll.
Coming of the school’s first-ever men’s national championship, the Commodores are ranked preseason No. 1 for the first time in the programs history and become only the second team in school history to garner the top spot in a preseason poll joining the women’s bowling team.
The Commodores host the team’s annual banquet on Saturday night at the Omni Hotel. The team is slated to sign autographs from 6-6:45 with the program beginning at approximately 7 p.m.
