Vandy travels to Kentucky for ITA Kick-Off

NASHVILLE, Tenn. –

ITA Kick-Off

The No. 25 Vanderbilt men’s tennis team takes to the road for the 2015 ITA Kick-Off weekend as the No. 2 seed. No. 19 University of Kentucky hosts the two-day event, with match play taking place at the Hillary J. Boone Tennis Complex. Other teams attending the tournament include the No. 3 seeded No. 20 South Florida Bulls and No. 4 seeded No. 26 Penn State Nittany Lions.

As the No. 2 seed at their location, the Commodores and take on the Bulls Friday at 4:00 p.m.. Consolation play takes place Saturday at 12:00 p.m., and championship match action will begin Saturday at 4:00 p.m. CT.

Over the course of the weekend, a total of 60 men’s tennis programs will take the court with hopes to lockup one of the 15 berths for the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, in February, hosted by the University of Chicago.

Rankings

Vanderbilt’s Gonzales Austin and Rhys Johnson are the top-ranked doubles team at the tournament coming in at No. 5 in the country. Gonzales Austin is the highest ranked singles player in competition at No. 10. Rhys Johnson joins the senior in the singles polls, coming in at No. 73.

The No. 19 Wildcats are the home to the No. 92 singles player, Beck Pennington. VU’s Gonzales Austin defeated Pennington during the Ohio Valley Regional earlier this year, 6-7(0), 6-3, 7-6(6).

South Florida currently boasts two ranked doubles team in No. 6 Roberto Cid and Sasha Gozun, and No. 44 Oliver Pramming and Justin Roberts. In singles play Cid is the 19th ranked player in the county.

Penn State’s Nika Dolidze and Thomas Hanzlik are currently the No. 59 doubles team.

Match 2 – (2) Vanderbilt vs. (3) South Florida – 5 p.m. ET OR 30 minutes following the conclusion of match one.

January 24, 2015

Match 3 – Consolation Final – Loser match 1 vs. Loser match 2 – 1 p.m. ET

Match 4 – Championship Final – Winner match 1 vs. Winner match 2 – 5 p.m. ET OR 30 minutes following the conclusion of match one.
