Vanderbilt Head Coach Melanie Balcomb
On today’s game…
“I actually liked our fight today. I liked a lot of things. We are who we are right now. We struggle with pressure. Tonight our only scorers for a while were Rebekah (Dahlman) and Marqu’es (Webb), and then Rebekah got in (foul) trouble just not being very smart. And then the rest were just going after every little thing they see on tape from previous games. She’s going to have to be smarter because that stretch that she didn’t play really hurt us.”
On the team’s effort today…
“We go after it for 40 minutes. We have to work smarter, not harder. That’s a good problem to have. We have a young team. We certainly played better than we did at LSU. This is our second road game. That’s what we’re working on, we’re just trying to get better every game whether it’s home or away just improve.”
Georgia Head Coach Andy Landers
On improving turnovers and free throws…
“Going back to Thursday night, we did two things that we normally don’t do: turn the ball over excessively – any turnover is excessive by the way – but we turned it over and missed free throws. But today we took really good care of the ball. I thought we were doing a nice job of managing things for the most part, and then we made our free throws.”
On Shacobia Barbee’s big game…
“[She] played really well, which you hope she does and you expect her to. One of the things that gets in the way a little bit is sometimes I think we expect and she expects too much of herself. I think sometimes that can be a stumbling stone. But this afternoon she was terrific…the rebounding was out of sight.”
On the upcoming difficult schedule…
“It is what it is. It’s the Southeastern Conference, and it really doesn’t matter most nights who’s playing who, it’s going to be a competitive game and if you play reasonably well you’re going to have a chance to win it, so we welcome the challenge of Texas A&M coming in on Thursday.
