LAS VEGAS—Vanderbilt bowlers had some shining moments and quality finishes but none became automatic qualifiers at the USA Team Trials that concluded here Wednesday.
Defending Trials champion Brittni Hamilton finished fifth in the elite field of 118 and current assistant coach Josie Earnest was 10th. Both could be selected as at-large members.
Katie Stark and Natalie Goodman supplied some spark for the Black and Gold on the final day. Stark, the freshman from Orlando, was an impressive 16th in Round 5. When coupled with her 20th place finish Tuesday, she jumped all the way to 37th in the final standings, determined by adding each day’s individual finish with the bowlers stacked according to the fewest points.
Senior Natalie Goodman had struggled for four days but she was a strong ninth today and finished 75th.
Other Vandy bowlers were Giselle Poss (48), Amanda Fry (58), Nicole Powell (63), Kendyll Dellinger (78) and high school signee Jordan Newham (107).
Vanderbilt’s varsity season resumes in two weeks at Arkansas State’s Mid-Winter Classic.
