Pregame Notes
– Vanderbilt is in its 125th year of organized football.
– The Commodores wore black helmets, white jerseys and gold pants for the first time this season.
– Vanderbilt won the coin toss and chose to receive. Mississippi State elected to defend the south end zone.
– Vanderbilt captains for the game were Andrew East, Joe Townsend and Kyle Woestmann.
Team Notes
– Vanderbilt is now 7-13-2 against Mississippi State.
– No. 4 Mississippi State was the highest-ranked team the Commodores had played since hosting No. 4 Florida on Oct. 15, 2012.
– Ralph Webb now has 857 rushing yards and moved to eighth on Vanderbilt’s single-season rushing yard list. With 14 yards against Mississippi State, he passed Doug Matthews, who rushed for 843 yards in 1969.
– The Commodores converted fourth downs twice. In the last three games, they have converted eight of 11 fourth downs.
– For the seventh game this season Vanderbilt used multiple quarterbacks.
Individual notes

– Dillon van der Wal caught a 12-yard pass from Johnny McCrary near the end of the first quarter for his first catch since the season opener against Temple.
– Defensive lineman Kyle Woestmann recorded his first sack of the season and 13th of his career. The senior leads the team with most sacks among active players.
– Linebacker Zach Cunningham had a career-high 13 tackles, including five solo stops. This came on the heels of an 11-tackle performance against Florida two weeks ago.
– Linebacker Stephen Weatherly recorded a career-high 12 tackles.
– Cornerback Torren McGaster had nine tackles and tied a career high with seven stops.
– Quarterback Johnny McCrary threw for 161 yards before leaving with an injury in the fourth quarter. The redshirt freshman has thrown for at least 150 yards in each of the last five games.
– Fullback Kellen Williams hauled in an 18-yard pass from McCrary in the third quarter for a career long. It was the third catch of his career.
– Quarterback Patton Robinette entered in the second quarter, playing in his fifth game of the year and second straight. He left the game with an injury after throwing an interception.
– Stephen Rivers played for the first time since Oct. 4. He relieved McCrary, who was injured.
