UPDATE ON THE DORES
RECORD: 2-0
CURRENT STREAK: Won two straight
UPCOMING GAMES:
Thursday: at Wisconsin, 7 p.m.
Monday: host St. Louis, 11:30 a.m.
Off to a 2-0 start, the Vanderbilt women’s basketball has a busy stretch ahead. The Commodores will make their first road trip of the season on Thursday when they visit Wisconsin, and will then come home for a ‘Monday Matinee’ contest against St. Louis. Below is a look ahead at the coming days for the Commodores, along with a brief recap of recent games.
TAKING THEIR SHOW ON THE ROAD
After two straight home games, the Commodores face their first road test of the season on Thursday, when they travel to Madison, Wisconsin to face the Badgers. Vanderbilt posted a 6-6 record in road games last season, including a 3-1 record in non-conference play (with wins over Hartford, James Madison and UAB). Note: In the most recent meeting between Vanderbilt and Wisconsin, the Commodores posted a 81-69 victory last November in the championship game of the Vanderbilt Thanksgiving Tournament at Memorial Gym.
MONDAY MATINEE AT MEMORIAL
Monday (Nov. 24) will be Education Day at Memorial Gym, with the Commodores hosting St. Louis in a rare week-day matinee game that features an 11:30 a.m. tipoff. The scheduling of an afternoon contest was designed to give children at local schools the opportunity to experience a collegiate basketball game, and perhaps use the game as a field trip. A large collection of schools are scheduled to attend the game, and each school will be greeted by Vanderbilt football player upon their arrival at Memorial Gym. Many of the normal gameday activities will be directed at school-aged children, including a special halftime show.
HOME GIVEAWAYS
When the starting lineups are being introduced, the members of Vanderbilt’s starting five will each throw a T-shirt into the crowd. So be sure to make some noise when your favorite player is announced — you might just get a T-shirt from her! Vanderbilt fans can also look forward to several in-game promotions, including the T-shirt toss and gold-shaker giveaways, along with free posters and wallet-sized schedules that are available at the marketing tables. After the game, the Vanderbilt players will throw miniature basketballs into the stands.
SO FAR, SO GOOD
The Commodores have opened the season with two straight home wins — a hard-fought 65-58 victory over Belmont in the season opener at home last Friday, followed by a 68-64 overtime win against Green Bay at home on Monday night. In the win over Belmont, the Commodores were trailing 59-58 with 3:09 to go before closing the game on an 8-0 run that was fueled by a pivotal 3-point play by Rebekah Dahlman. Morgan Batey finished with a team-high 15 points, and freshman Audrey-Ann Caron-Goudreau had an impressive college debut, finishing with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore Marqu’es Webb and freshman Paris Kea added 11 points each for the Commodores. In the victory over Green Bay, Marqu’es Webb led the way with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Caron-Goudreau also had a double-double, her second of the season, with 10 points and 10 rebounds. All five Vanderbilt starters reached double figures, and combined to score 56 of Vanderbilt’s 68 points. In addition to Webb and Caron-Goudreau, the other Commodores in double figures were Christa Reed (12 points), Morgan Batey (11) and Paris Kea (10).
