Few readers will recognize the name Rob Whiting. He ran cross country here about a decade ago and while he was a mediocre runner, he was a community service and academic stalwart. Rob recently announced he has joined Waste Capital Partners in Visakhapatnam, India in the Principal role. The company aims to solve India’s municipal solid waste problem, globally known to be among the worst. It does this by environmentally processing waste to produce organic fertilizer and recyclables, which it sells to farmers and wholesalers. We will feature Rob in an upcoming issue of Commodore Nation; he is an amazing guy and a true student-athlete.

In case you were wondering, our athletic department dropped the “Lady” from “Lady Commodores” 20 years ago, maybe 21. Other than a couple somewhat confused public address announcers that never realized a woman could also be a plain old Commodore, nobody said a word. Isn’t the world of “Lady Gamecocks” and “Lady Bulldogs” gone with the wind?

Thursday’s NCC’s Tip-Off Luncheon with Melanie Balcomb and Kevin Stallings was absolutely terrific. If you weren’t there, you are probably thinking you’ve heard coaches talk before and could predict what was said. Wrong! The two spent 40 minutes taking some interesting questions from Joe Fisher and then essentially having a conversation about their professions – much as if the audience was eavesdropping on a conversation over coffee. There was not a person in the room that didn’t get some insight into what makes these coaches tick.
