Birmingham, Ala. – Vanderbilt redshirt freshman Rebekah Dahlman was named to the preseason All-SEC Second Team on Wednesday morning as determined by the annual voting by the conference coaches.
The ballots also revealed that the SEC coaches project Vanderbilt to finish sixth in the conference this season. (Complete list below)
Dahlman was in the starting lineup for Vanderbilt’s first nine games last season before being sidelined with a blood clot in December and missing the rest of the season. She was leading the SEC and ranked 10th in the nation in 3-point percentage at 51.4 percent (18-of-35) at the time of her injury.
Dahlman and the Commodores — who have advanced to the NCAA Tournament in each of the past 15 seasons — host Coker on Saturday at noon in an exhibition game. Vanderbilt then plays its regular-season on Nov. 14, hosting Belmont at 7 p.m.
The SEC coaches predicted South Carolina to repeat as regular-season champs. South Carolina returns all five starters from last season’s team and lost just two letter winners from a squad that went 29-5 and advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16. South Carolina’s Tiffany Mitchell was voted as the preseason Player of the Year.
South Carolina (169 points) is followed by Tennessee (155), Texas A&M (144), Kentucky (135), Georgia (108), Vanderbilt (107), and LSU (94) in the upper half of the SEC.
NOTE: Points were compiled on a 13-12-11-10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 basis. Each coach also voted for an eight-player All-SEC first team, an eight-player All-SEC second team and the Player of the Year. Coaches cannot vote for their own team or players and ties are not broken.
