An open letter from David Williams

An Open Letter and Thank You from David Williams:

About two and a half weeks ago, I entered the Vanderbilt Medical Center to undergo a procedure. Three days later I was home resting and recovering under the excellent care of my wife, Gail and my four children Erika, David, Samantha and Nicholas.

I must thank the men and women at Vanderbilt University Medical Center for their outstanding service. Not only are they excellent doctors and nurses but the personal care that they give to each and every person is unbelievable. When we hear folks talk about how health care is a problem they clearly have not experienced the care given by the professionals who work at our medical center. I am truly thankful to each and every one of them for being who they are and for doing what they do.

My family was equally great as they took great care to make sure I was getting everything I needed and obeying the medical advice I was getting, as well as keeping my spirits up and work input down. The team at Vanderbilt Athletics did exactly what we train to do every day: keep the ship moving and provide a great experience for our student athletes and our fans in Commodore Nation. Thanks so much guys.

It was very humbling and quite amazing to receive the number of cards, flowers, fruit, calls, texts and other communications from my friends and family, the coaching staff, present and former student athletes and from members of Commodore Nation. It was touching and at times brought me to tears. I cannot express how much I appreciate all of the well wishes and prayers that were sent my way. From calling to check in to stopping Gail at the store to see how I was doing to tweeting `get better’ or simply thinking about me reaffirms the fact that our community is one of love, support, friendship and caring. Thank each of every one of you. You have made a huge difference in my life and recovery.

I returned to work this week and will continue to work to make all of us proud of what we do for this university and community, but I wanted to take a minute to say thank you all and Anchor Down!!!
