Just heard this week that former quarterback Jordan Rodgers has signed a contract to play for the British Columbia Lions in the Canadian Football League. B.C. is currently 8-7 and battling for a spot in the playoffs.

All fans are invited to our Basketball Tip-Off Luncheon Thursday, Nov. 13 at noon in the Student Life Center. Kevin Stallings and Melanie Balcomb will speak. Click here for more information and to register. (Note: There is a discount on the ticket if purchased in advance.)

An observation: When the public hears the term “collegiate athletics” it almost always conjures up an image of a football or basketball game. When people who work in college athletics hear the term, they almost always think of the collective body of NCAA athletics, not simply the two highest profile sports.

The soccer team has won two SEC games in a row and closes its home season with games Friday against South Carolina (6 p.m.) and Sunday versus Ole Miss (5 p.m.) The weather is predicted to be nice; it could be an ideal time to come watch some quality soccer. Admission is free.

We often mention golf in this column because the rise in national stature for both programs has been astounding. Earlier this week our men’s team – rated sixth nationally – shot 35-UNDER par in one of the nation’s biggest collegiate tournaments. The women’s program is reigning SEC champions with four of the five starters back and just won their second tournament of the young season out in Hawaii.
