Vanderbilt’s bowling team will compete in five fall events and five spring tournaments during a demanding schedule announced today by Coach John Williamson.
“Every year we strive to create a schedule that challenges our team, prepares it for the post-season and in a secondary way, allows us to see different parts of the country,” Williamson says. “This year we will return to a number of traditional stops but we also will make our first appearance at Tulane and Stephen F. Austin.”
Vanderbilt will open its year with a dual scrimmage against Arkansas State Oct. 12 in the team’s new Recreation Center facility. The scrimmage does not count toward its NCAA record or statistics. The Commodores then open their official season when they travel the next week to New Orleans for the Tulane Invitational.
There are three tournaments in November, starting with Fairleigh Dickinson’s Jamboree and flowed by the Crusader Classic at Valparaiso and the Hawk Classic, hosted by Maryland-Eastern Shore.
The team then breaks for exams and the winter holidays to return Jan. 16-18 at Arkansas State’s Mid-Winter Invitational. Vanderbilt will go to Reading, Pa., the following week for the Kutztown Invitational and has February competitions at the Prairie View A & M Invitational at the International Training and Research Center in Arlington, Tex., and the Stephen F. Austin Invitational in Houston.
The regular season concludes by hosting the Columbia 300 Music City Classic March 6-8. This event has evolved into one of the nation’s biggest fields; last year 90% of the nation’s Top 20 programs were in attendance.
The NCAA Championship will be held in St. Louis April 9-11.
