David Williams made some good points about the state of our football program during a talk show interview earlier this week. In this interview, Williams is clear that he understands the fan base is unhappy and grants that it has every right to be. He notes that we created high expectations and that is precisely what we wanted to do and that we are all working hard to get back on track. This is worthy of a listen for its sensible point of view, which some other current analysis sadly lacks. (Listen)

Speaking of David Williams, our director was just named to the board of directors of the Nashville Public Education Foundation, a nonprofit charged with raising private funds to help improve public schools. The organization is undergoing a large-scale restructuring including a revised approach to investing private dollars.

Thirty-three years ago Friday, the renovated Vanderbilt Stadium was dedicated with a thrilling victory over the Maryland Terrapins. The key participants on Sept 12, 1981 included Coach George MacIntyre, Director of Athletics Roy Kramer and an inspired Commodore team that actually made a curtain-call from its post-game locker room for fans that didn’t want to leave the aura of the evening.

Congratulations to our department’s registered dietician, Jessica Bennett. Jessica recently passed the Board Certification exam to earn her Specialist in Sports Dietetics Credential (CSSD), one of six credentialed dietitians in Tennessee and the only one at Vanderbilt. CSSDs are Registered Dietitians who specialize in safe, effective, evidence-based nutrition services for health, fitness and athletic performance.
