INDIANAPOLIS – Seven Vanderbilt athletic teams earned Public Recognition Awards for their latest multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR), the NCAA announced Wednesday. The awards are presented annually to teams earning scores in the top 10 percent of their sport.

The seven teams recognized were:
Men’s Cross Country
Men’s Golf
Women’s Bowling
Women’s Cross Country
Women’s Golf
Women’s Track, Indoor
Women’s Track, Outdoor

Vanderbilt is among a group of less than 75 schools that have received Public Recognition Awards each of the nine years of the program. Vanderbilt’s men’s cross country team is one of just 146 teams nationally to receive a Public Recognition Award all nine years. Among men’s cross country teams, Vanderbilt is one of just six programs to be honored each year.

The APR annually measures academic achievement. Teams must meet a certain academic threshold to qualify for postseason competition. Teams can face penalties for continued low academic performance. The most recent APRs are based on scores from the 2009-10, 2010-11, 2011-12 and 2012-13.

Each year, the NCAA tracks the classroom performance of student-athletes on every Division I team through the annual scorecard of academic achievement, known as APR. The rate measures eligibility, graduation and retention each semester or quarter and provides a clear picture of the academic performance in each sport.

APRs for all Division I teams will be released on May 14.
