COLUMBIA, Mo. – The 11th-ranked Vanderbilt women’s tennis team opens play at the 2014 Southeastern Conference Women’s Tennis Tournament, from Columbia, Mo., on Friday. The Commodores earned the No. 2 seed in the tournament and received byes through the first two days of action. Vandy will face the winner of Thursday’s Kentucky and Auburn match, at 8 a.m.

Vanderbilt earned the second overall seed in the tournament after finishing with a record of 11-2 in SEC play. The only two conferences losses for the Dores came on the road at Texas A&M and Florida. The Commodores closed the 2014 regular season with a thrilling 4-2 come-from-behind win over South Carolina.

“We are excited to start SEC tournament play,” said head coach Geoff Macdonald. “These girls worked really hard all season to get to this point and earn the No. 2 seed.”

The Commodores will face the winner of No. 7 seed Auburn and No. 10 seed Kentucky. Vanderbilt knocked off both the Tigers and the Wildcats this season, in Nashville.

Vanderbilt is 18-17 in SEC tournament matches under Macdonald. The Dores have won at least one match in SEC postseason play in each of the last 13 seasons.

Missouri, in just its second year in the conference is the host school for the tournament. The Commodores made a trip to Columbia earlier this season, knocking off the Tigers 4-0.

“We’re really excited to go back to Missouri,” said Macdonald. “We made the trip their once already this season and they were extremely hospitable. I have no doubt that their staff will once again make us feel very welcomed.”

The winner of Friday’s match will advance to the semifinals on Saturday at 10 a.m.
