Vanderbilt Head Coach Kevin Stallings

Opening Comments:

“We’re disappointed. We hoped for better. We couldn’t make open shots. We couldn’t make layups. We tried hard, we fought hard, and we guarded hard. [LSU Forward Johnny O’Bryant] is a terrific player. Our guys competed and followed the game plan to a `T.'”

On Vanderbilt’s Shooting:

“In the first half because of foul trouble with James [Siakam] and Damian [Jones], we went to the perimeter for shots… In the second half, Rod [Odom] couldn’t get anything to go in. I felt bad for him. He was working to get himself open. He’s the guy who has been carrying our team all season.”

On Vanderbilt Forward Rod Odom’s Health:

“He’s more hurt than injured, but he’s pretty banged up.”

On Whether the Long Season is Catching Up with Vanderbilt:

“Maybe… I’d be less than honest if I didn’t say `maybe.’ I know those guys will play as hard as they can on Saturday [to close out the regular season]. You can say some of the shots that weren’t going in were going in earlier. Defensively, we were outrebounded by two – against that team – and held [LSU] to 33% shooting… They’re out there fighting.”

On Seniors Kyle Fuller and Rod Odom:

“They do a good job of leading by example and leading by courage and determination and giving their all. They’re both guys who work hard in the offseason to get themselves conditioned… I’m proud of both of them. They should both have their degrees in May.”

On Vanderbilt’s Defensive Effort:

“The goal was to put pressure on [Johnny] O’Bryant… We did a good job defensively. I thought we’d play more zone than we did, but we were guarding the ball well. We needed to score more than 19 points in the second half. It wasn’t because we didn’t get shots… They didn’t go in tonight, but that’s the nature of the beast… O’Bryant played hard. He’s a good, good player. He’s really, really good. He’ll be playing for a very long time.”
