Reaping the rewards of a hot streak that has included three recent wins over ranked opponents, the Commodores are climbing the polls.
They moved up eight spots in this week’s Associated Press poll, moving from No. 24 to No. 16, when the rankings were released Monday.
Vanderbilt, which has won 13 of its past 14 games and owns a 16-3 record, has jumped out to a 5-1 start in the SEC, including Sunday’s 79-70 win over then-No. 14/14 LSU.
The Commodores also took down Tennessee last Sunday (when the Lady Vols were ranked No. 8/8) and downed Georgia on Jan. 5 (when the Lady Bulldogs were ranked No. 19/18).
Vanderbilt’s No. 16 ranking in the AP poll is the highest ranking for the Commodores since Week 2 of last season, when they were ranked No. 13.
Vanderbilt’s next game is on Sunday, when the Commodores host No. 10 South Carolina at 1 p.m.
