Busy weekend for the Commodores

A number of Vanderbilt’s teams will be competing in what will be another busy weekend in Vanderbilt athletics. The men’s and women’s basketball teams will play multiple games, the women’s cross country team will run at the NCAA Championships, the football team will play at Tennessee and the swimming team will compete in its final meet of the fall.

Competition gets underway Thursday when the women’s basketball team travels to No. 2/2 Duke at 5:30 p.m. CT. The game will be a rematch of the NCAA Tournament game played between the two programs in 2012. The Commodores will hope for a better outcome this time around. Read More

On Friday, Vanderbilt’s swimming team will open competition at the three-day Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta. It will be Vanderbilt’s final meet until January 18. Additionally, Vanderbilt’s men’s basketball team will open play in the ezybonds Paradise Jam at 5:30 p.m. CT against Providence.

Should the Commodores win, they will face the winner of the LaSalle and Morgan State game at 8 p.m. Sunday. If Vanderbilt loses, it will face the losing team at 4 p.m. Saturday. Read More

On Saturday, Vanderbilt’s women’s cross country team will compete for the third year in a row at the NCAA Cross Country Championships in Terre Haute, Ind. Before 2011, the cross country team never made it to the NCAA Championships. Saturday’s race will begin at 1 p.m. Read More

Saturday evening, Vanderbilt’s football team will play at Tennessee. The game will kick at 6 p.m. at Neyland Stadium and can be viewed on ESPN2. Read More

The weekend of events will end Sunday when Vanderbilt’s women’s basketball team hosts Dayton at 2 p.m. It will be the only home event of the weekend for any Vanderbilt team, and Commodore fans will have a tremendous offer to take advantage of. The game has been designated for Vanderbilt’s Take A Kid to the Game promotion. This enables fans to purchase one discounted adult ticket for $6 and receive a complimentary youth ticket (18 and under). Dayton defeated Vanderbilt last season and also advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Read More
