Quick Slant is an array of brief insights and occasionally opinionated overviews of collegiate athletics in general and the Vanderbilt Commodores in particular.

The weekend spotlight will be on Vanderbilt Stadium Saturday but on Friday we will dedicate our outstanding Golf House and Training Center at the Vanderbilt Legends Club. Golf alumni, campus administrators, donors to the project and friends of the golf program will gather to christen one of the finest collegiate golf facilities in the country.
National Commodore Club members and subscribers to Commodore Nation magazine will soon find a special October edition in their mailboxes. It is essentially our annual report, 44 pages of colorful photographs, reviews and information. We hope you enjoy your copy.
Earlier this week, a diehard Vanderbilt family was exchanging tweets, explaining that nearly the entire group would have to miss Saturday’s football game because a cousin was being married at virtually the same time. One member of this family replied that he was going to go to the game alone, passing on the big wedding. And who responds to that tweet with a gracious “thank you”? None other than Head Football Coach James Franklin! Needless to say the family was stunned…and impressed!
We’re still searching for our first National Commodore Club member from the last four states in the union to join. Here’s another call for a member – at any level of giving – from the states of North Dakota, New Mexico, Idaho or Alaska. Surely someone reading this note knows of someone living there that should be joining. We want members in all 50 states.
