Sep 2, 2013

LAS VEGAS—Two Vanderbilt bowling alumni are among the leaders at the United States Bowling Congress Queens championship after two rounds of qualifying.

Brittni Hamilton stands fourth in the field of 201, averaging 227 in 10 games over two days. Josie Earnest is 12th at a 218 average, making a strong move Monday after sitting back in the pack after Sunday’s opening round.

Hamilton, who resides in Webster, N.Y., took the opposite route, producing a tremendous 1,190 on her first day and cooling a bit Monday with a 1,071 in five games.

There is one more day of qualifying before the field gets cut and match play begins. Sprinkled throughout the top 30 are some Hall of Famers hoping to make a big move Tuesday. Shagna Ng of Singapore leads the field with a 235.5 average. Complete results are on bowl.com

Earnest finished fifth in this championship a year ago.
