The Vanderbilt women’s soccer team opens its 2013 regular season on Friday, Aug. 23, when UAB visits the VU Soccer Complex for a 7 p.m. CT start. Admission to the game is free for youth who wear their team soccer jerseys, as well as Vanderbilt students, faculty and staff.
The Commodores and Blazers last faced off in 2010, with Vanderbilt taking a 5-1 victory in Birmingham. UAB returns seven of its eight goal scorers from a season ago, including junior Johanna Liney, who netted a team-high six goals in 2012.
Like Vanderbilt, UAB is under the direction of a third-year head coach. Harold Warren took over the program following the 2010 season after the retirement of 15-year veteran Paul Harbin.
Vanderbilt will remain at home all weekend, playing host to Oklahoma State for a 1 p.m. CT tilt on Sunday. The Cowgirls will play at UT-Martin on Friday night before making the drive to Nashville.
