Three Dores survive cut at Junior Gold

July 18, 2013

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. – Three Vanderbilt bowlers survived the first cut at the North Pointe Junior Gold tournament here Wednesday. Amanda Fry moved up a notch into third place while Jr. Team USA members Natalie Goodman (20th) and Robyn Renslow (50th) also move into Thursday’s Advancers Round.

The top 81 bowlers and ties from a field of 561 will begin at 1:30 (ET), hoping to reach Friday’s 16-person match play bracket.

Vanderbilt coaches John Williamson and Josie Earnest were in attendance Wednesday and reported the lane conditions were especially difficult, pushing scores downward. The leader in the Under-20 category is Nebraska’s Liz Kuhlkin, just plus-105 after 15 games, a 207 average.

Fry, a sophomore at Vanderbilt, is plus-35 (203.87 average) with Goodman at minus-91 and Renslow at -176. Renslow, the tournament’s defending champion, needs a big day to survive the next cut.

Commodores that didn’t make the cut include Tori Ferris, who just missed the standard, Nicole Mosesso, Giselle Poss, Kendyll Dellinger and Nicole Powell.

Automatic Junior Team USA spots will be awarded to the top two girls in the 20-and-under division after 25 games of qualifying. Additional automatic spots will be given to the winner and runner-up after bracket play in the 20-and-under division. If one or both of the finalists in the bracket already earned a spot through qualifying, the automatic spot becomes an at-large selection.
