Men’s Golf has stellar summer

The Vanderbilt men’s golf team has been extremely busy this summer, with many of the current players and incoming freshmen competing in some of the nation’s, and even the world’s, top amateur events. Some of the highlights include qualifying for the U.S. Amateur, winning one of the nation’s most prestigious amateur event, and placing in the top 15 in a European Tour professional event.

Here’s a look at the Commodores’ results from their play this summer.

Charlie Ewing – Sr.

Ewing, from Dallas, finished in a tie for 14th at the 73rd Annual Monroe Invitational at the Monroe Golf Club in Pittsford, N.Y., and also won two Texas Collegiate Amateur Tour stops this summer, one at the Historic Golf Club of Dallas and the other at the Trophy Club’s Hogan Course.

Mills Rendell – Sr.

Rising senior finished in a tie for 59th at the Southeastern Amateur at the Country Club of Columbus in Georgia.

Ben Fogler – Jr.

Fogler, from Columbia, S.C., placed third at the Palmetto Amateur in his home state, and finished in a tie for 27th at the Greystone Invitational. He also finished in a tie for 36th at the Players Amateur.

Jordan Janico – Jr.

The rising redshirt junior finished in 42nd at the Dogwood Invitational at the Druid Hills Golf Club in Atlanta.

Hunter Stewart – Jr.

Rising junior made quite the splash this summer, winning the Players Amateur over two first-team All-Americans and earning an exemption to the RBC Heritage in 2014. Stewart also finished in a tie for third at the Monroe Invitational and in a tie for 45th at the Greystone Invitational.

Carson Jacobs – So.

Rising sophomore finished in a tie for 47th at the Palmetto Amateur.

Zack Jaworski – So.

Rising sophomore from Atlanta has had a busy summer. He carded a top 10 (T-10) at the Dogwood Invitational, finished in a tie for 16th at the Greystone Invitational and 13th at the prestigious Players Amateur in Hilton Head, S.C. He also finished 49th at the Southeastern Amateur in Columbus, Ga.

Spencer Ciesla – So.

Rising sophomore finished The Magnolia Amateur in 16th in Hattiesburg, Miss., and in a tie for 24th at the Spirit of America in Greenwich, Conn.

John Voetsch – So.

Voetsch, from New Vernon, N.J., finished in a tie for eighth at the New Jersey State Amateur, and in a tie for 29th at the Rice Planters in Mount Pleasant, S.C.

Michael Decker – Fr.

Incoming freshman from Pebble Beach, Calif., finished in a tie for 49th at the Magnolia Amateur in Hattiesburg, Miss.

Zach Herr – Fr.

The incoming freshman from New Hope, Pa., finished in a tie for 18th at the prestigious Sunnehanna in Johnstown, Pa., and on June 17, won his U.S. Amateur qualifier by four strokes to advance to the U.S. Open in Chicago August 12-18.

Matthias Schwab – Fr.

Incoming freshman Matthias Schwab from Rohmoos, Austria, finished in a tie for 14th on the European Tour Austrian Open, a professional event, and tied for third at the Swiss Amateur. Schwab was the only amateur to make the cut at the Austrian Open, shooting an eight-under par, 280.
