STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. – Vanderbilt’s Amanda Fry found the lanes to her liking and shot into fourth place after 10 games at the North Pointe Junior Gold Tournament Tuesday.
The rising sophomore had one of the day’s best five-game blocks and is at plus-42 (pins over or under a 200 average), trailing Nebraska bowler Liz Kuhkin who is at plus-161. The massive field gets cut after today’s five games to the top 81 bowlers in the Girls Under-20 section.
Commodore Natalie Goodman, second after the first day, slipped to 13th with a 920 block (-13) and the tournament’s defending champion, Robyn Renslow, is 36th (-76). It should be noted that Renslow came from far back a year ago to make the 16-person match play ladder and prevailed on the final day.
Another Vanderbilt bowler that made a big jump in the standings was Tori Ferris, who climbed from 111th into 49th (-98). Incoming freshman Giselle Poss of Montgomery, Ill., and rising junior Nicole Mosesso are right at the cut line in 89th and 93rd places respectively. Two other incoming freshmen, Kendyll Dellinger (173rd) and Nicole Powell (316) will need huge days to survive to bowl Thursday.
Scores in this tournament have been modest; only 11 competitors are on the plus side of pin counts after 10 games, an indication of the difficult patterns being used.
