“What are you doing?” Nothing. “Okay, let’s go watch Friday Night Lights.”
And from there, as Connor Harrell explains, the popular movie depicting the tale of a West Texas prep football squad extended to the Vanderbilt baseball team’s daily routine, most notably the pregame huddle.

“We watch the movie a lot in our free time,” says Harrell, the ringleader, who just happens to hail from the Lone Star State.
“I’ve probably seen it 100 times. Some of the guys really got into it, so the first game we said ‘stay low boys, keep those feet moving.’ That’s from the end of the movie. We then started mixing in new quotes every game.”
They get creative, too. You’ll hear that there “ain’t no curses.” Or about winning for Boobie Miles. The clever tribute covers it all, from famous scenes to random dialogue from the 2004 film. Whether it’s inspirational or humorous, the speeches prepare the Commodores for battle.
“I think it was Jared (Miller’s) idea to start saying lines before the games,” Harrell continues. “We don’t want to be real tight. It keeps us loose. It’s funny and it applies in a way, too.”
