Former Vanderbilt standout Brandt Snedeker began his sixth career Masters in a solid fashion, firing a two-under par, 70, in the first round of the year’s first major tournament.  The Nashville native stands in a tie for 13th, and trails leaders Marc Leishman and Sergio Garcia by four strokes heading into the second round on Friday at Augusta National.

Snedeker posted six birdies on Thursday on holes two, three, eight, nine, 13, and 15, carded two bogeys on number seven and 11, and had a double-bogey six on the par-four, 455-yard “Magnolia” hole.

“Played very scrappy,” Snedeker told Golfweek. “I didn’t drive it the way I needed to drive it to contend around here, but made a lot of key putts today. I kind of held on and got a good round under my belt, which is nice.”

Snedeker, who teed off at 8:17 a.m. CT on Thursday, will once again be paired with Justin Rose and Ryo Ishikawa on Friday.  The threesome will tee off at 11:24 CT off of the first tee, with most of their round being broadcast on ESPN during their Friday coverage, which begins at 2 p.m. CT.
