COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Vanderbilt women’s basketball Head Coach Melanie Balcomb is among a group the USA Basketball Board of Directors has approved for competition committees for the 2013-16 quadrennium. The committees feature representation from USA Basketball member organizations as well as athlete representatives. Balcomb will serve on the 2013-16 Women’s Junior National Team Committee.
“We are fortunate to have terrific representatives for each of these committees,” said USA Basketball Executive Director/CEO Jim Tooley. “These are the committees that identify our coaches and players for our national teams, and we put together another collection of talented and dedicated committee members to help us continue to win gold medals.”
The Women’s Junior National Team Committee is chaired by Jim Foster (head coach, Ohio State) and includes NCAA appointees Melanie Balcomb (head coach, Vanderbilt University), Lindsay Gottlieb (head coach, University of California) and Joi Williams (head coach, UCF), as well as athlete representative Kara Lawson, a 2008 Olympic gold medalist who has been a part of nine USA Basketball teams.
The committee will select coaches and athletes for USA Basketball’s college-aged competitions, which include the 2013 and 2015 FIBA U19 World Championships, the 2014 and 2016 FIBA Americas U18 Championships, the 2013 and 2015 World University Games and the 2015 Pan American Games.
