Game Notes: Vanderbilt

Scouting The Commodores
The Vanderbilt women’s basketball team (17-9, 7-6 SEC) returns home to host No. 10/13 Texas A&M on Sunday, February 41. The Commodores are led by senior forward Tiffany Clarke, who is averaging 15.9 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. Clarke is also shooting 54.4% from the field on the year, second in the SEC and is the only player in the league to rank in the top-five of scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage and blocks. Vanderbilt’s next leading scorer, Christina Foggie, has missed the last three games due to a knee injury suffered against Kentucky on February 14. Foggie is averaging 15.7 points per game. Junior guard Jasmine Lister has started all 26 games and is averaging 12.1 points and 5.6 assists per game. Since Foggie’s injury, Lister is averaging 19.3 points per game. Senior guard Elan Brown has also started all 26 games, while averaging 6.3 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. Look for freshman forward Heather Bowe and senior guard Elan Brown to round out the starting five, should Foggie not be ready on Sunday. Bowe is averaging 6.6 points and 4.6 rebounds per contest and has scored in double-figures in four of the last six games. Smith has played in all but one game, averaging 1.8 points and 1.2 rebounds per game. First off the bench, look to Kady Schrann, who has been battling an ankle injury and just returned against Florida after missing the last three games, Jasmine Jenkins, Morgan Batey, Rayte’a Long and Kendall Shaw.
Scouting The Aggies
No. 10/13 Texas A&M (21-6, 11-2 SEC) makes it’s first SEC trip to Nashville with its only losses in its inaugural league season coming to Kentucky. Kelsey Bone leads the Aggies in scoring and rebounding at 17.6 and 10.0 per game, respectively. She ranks third in the league in rebounding and is leading the conference in rebounding. Courtney Walker is next at 10.6 points per game, followed by Kristi Bellock at 9.9 points and 7.3 rebounds per outing. The trio of Bone, Walker and Bellock have started all 27 A&M games this season. Adrienne Pratcher has started all but one contest and is averaging 8.8 points and 4.3 assists per game. Texas A&M leads the league in both field goal percentage (.470) and three-point percentage (.374). All six of the Aggies’ losses have come to teams ranked 12th nationally or higher (No. 12 Louisville, No. 7 Penn State, No. 3 Connecticut, No. 2 Notre Dame and two losses to No. 8 Kentucky).
The Series – Vanderbilt vs. Texas A&M
Vanderbilt and Texas A&M are meeting for the fourth time, with Vanderbilt holding a 2-1 advantage in the series. The Commodores swept a home-and-home series with a win in Nashville in 1995-96 and a win in College Station in 1997-98. The teams met as members of the Southeastern Conference for the first time on January 31 in College Station, with the Aggies taking a 60-52 decision. Courtney Walker led A&M with 20 points, while Christina Foggie led the way for the Commodores with 17 points. Texas A&M Head Coach Gary Blair will be returning to Memorial Gym for the first time since Melanie Balcomb’s first group of Commodores beat Blair’s final Arkansas’ team, 76-59, on January 23, 2003.

Vanderbilt will play its final home game of 2012-13 when it hosts Auburn on Thursday, February 28. The game begins at 8:00 p.m. CT and will serve as Senior Night for three Commodores – Elan Brown, Tiffany Clarke and Gabby Smith.
