HENDERSON, NV—Josie Earnest led the trio of Vanderbilt-connected bowlers Sunday at the USBC’s Team USA Trials. Earnest, Brittni Hamilton and Amanda Fry are all in the Sweet 16 after 24 games (four blocks) with a potentially long day of competition remaining Monday.
Earnest, Vanderbilt’s assistant coach, posted the day’s sixth best pin fall, giving her a total of 45 points for the tournament and she sits in fifth position. The points represent the total of each individual’s single day block score so the lower the point total the better for the entire tournament. Veteran professional Diandra Asbaty of Chicago leads the event by a relatively wide margin, 27 points and 5,329 pins with the total points the key criteria.
Hamilton had the day’s 14th best block score, giving the Webster, N.Y. alumnus a total of 72 points (4.898 pins) for the four days and Fry, the young varsity freshman from California, improved in the overall standings from 24th to 16th with 111 points.
The tournament concludes Monday but not after the field is cut after a morning round of eight games and heads into a match play championship bracket.
At stake are berths on both Team USA and Junior Team USA. Complete statistics are found on bowl.com.
