Film Breakdown: Kedren Johnson

Nov. 6, 2012

Kedren Johnson doesn’t lack confidence.

The perfect example of Johnson’s courage was his driving layup that propelled Vanderbilt to its first SEC Tournament Championship since 1951.

The 6-foot-4 point guard has great vision and strength to run the offense effectively, and the aggressiveness and feel to open the floor for his teammates. Entering his sophomore season, Johnson will be relied upon to provide a scoring punch, too.

“[Kedren] has a chance to really come into his own this year,” assistant coach Tom Richardson said. “He got some quality time last year and made some fine contributions. He’s really capable of scoring in big numbers, as well as making his teammates better.”

According to Richardson, a 10-year veteran on Kevin Stallings’ staff, Johnson improved dramatically in the offseason, specifically his defense and jump shot. Johnson will move into a starting role after averaging 3.1 points, 1.8 assists, and 1.2 rebounds per game off the bench as a freshman.

Richardson spent time recently breaking down Johnson’s game for VUcommodores.com.
