NASHVILLE – The Vanderbilt women’s soccer team opens up a four-game home stand on Friday, Oct. 12, when Ole Miss visits the VU Soccer Complex for a 7 p.m. CT game. The Commodores have designated Friday’s game as a “Pink Out” to raise awareness of breast cancer, and all fans who wear pink will receive free admission.
Only one point separates the Commodores and Rebels through eight games of Southeastern Conference play. With 10 points, Vanderbilt (2-2-4) stands in a tie for sixth place with Kentucky and Arkansas. Ole Miss (3-5-0) is currently in ninth place, just one point ahead of a three-way tie for 10th between Georgia, LSU and Alabama.
Eight of Vanderbilt’s 15 games this season have gone to overtime. The Commodores have played an extra 144 minutes during overtime in those contests, including five draws that went the full 110 minutes. Ole Miss, on the other hand, has not played an overtime game this season.
Ole Miss leads the SEC with 35 total goals on the season, but 26 of those tallies came during non-conference play. The Rebels are 10th in goals scored during league play, while the Commodore rank third.
Vanderbilt’s forward trio of senior Dana Schwartz and freshmen Cheyna Williams and Kelsey Tillman have scored 15 of VU’s 23 goals this year. Williams lead the Commodores in goals (6), assists (6) and points (18).

Following Friday’s game, the Commodores will play host to Texas A&M on Sunday, Oct. 14, at 1 p.m., for the Aggies first SEC game in Nashville. Vanderbilt will close its 2012 home schedule next weekend as Auburn and Florida visit Music City. The Florida game on Sunday, Oct. 21, will be preceded by a Senior Day ceremony honoring Vanderbilt’s graduating class.
