NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt’s swimming team will host conference foe LSU in a dual on Wednesday at the Centennial Sportsplex with a start time slated at 3 p.m. Admission is free.
Wednesday’s home meet will be the first of five home swimming meets for the Commodores this season. The Commodores will also host SEC-member Alabama later this month.
“It’s really nice to have three meets at home (in-a-row) because it allows us to stay in our daily routine and keeps things ‘normal,'” said seventh-year head coach Jeremy Organ. “It’s always exciting to be able to swim at home in front of friends and family and the Commodore fans.”
Vanderbilt is coming off its first action of the season last Saturday (Oct. 6) when the Commodores traveled to Fayetteville, Ark., for the Arkansas Relays. The squad finished fifth at the meet and will look to improve upon those results versus LSU.
At the Arkansas Relays, three different relay teams recorded third-place finishes for Vanderbilt. The highest finishes came in the 3×100 yard breaststroke relay, 400 medley relay and 400 free relay.
Organ said this week’s matchup with LSU will be tough, but should provide the team with a good idea of how they stack up against conference competition.
“For the meet with LSU we will be looking at how we are putting races together and improving on race strategy,” Organ said. “Because of the quick turnaround, we have to be mentally prepared to compete and to compete at the level that will give us a chance to be successful.”
Vanderbilt will have two weeks off before the home dual with Alabama, which is Oct. 26 at the Centennial Sportsplex. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
