The Vanderbilt women’s basketball team continues to work hard on and off the court as they get ready for the season. Conditioning and workouts have been going strong, plus midterm exams are this week. The players will then get a little time off Thursday-Sunday for fall break, but after that it’s basketball time.
Official practices start the weekend of October 12, and by then the Commodores will have less than a month before the regular season opener against McNeese State on November 10. But that doesn’t mean the players haven’t been busy.
Reading Break
Last Friday, the entire team took some time to visit Eakin Elementary School, just south of campus. VUCommodores.com tagged along, spending time with Gabby Smith, Clair Watkins and Jasmine Jenkins, as they read to and visited with a group of kindergarteners.

To recap the visit, Smith took the camera and talked to Christina Foggie, Tiffany Clarke, Stephanie Holzer and Morgan Batey.
Hoops Crew Picnic
On Saturday, the team had the opportunity to visit with some of their biggest fans. The annual picnic with the Hoops Crew took place on the lawn across from Memorial Gym, giving the team’s biggest supporters a chance to interact with members of the team.

Afterwards, VUCommodores.com caught up with freshmen Heather Bowe and Kendall Shaw to ask them about the event.
Countdown Continues
Our countdown to the season will continue on Sunday, October 6, when Kendall Shaw takes a turn 35 days out.
