NASHVILLE – The Vanderbilt women’s soccer team plays just its second home match of the 2012 season Thursday night when regional rival Memphis visits the VU Soccer Complex. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. CT kickoff.
Vanderbilt (2-2-1) will be trying to rebound from a home loss to Gonzaga on Sunday. The 1-0 defeat marked the first time the Commodores had been shutout this season. Last Friday, senior Dana Schwartz scored twice to win at Middle Tennessee State, 2-0.
The Lady Tigers (1-2) split a pair of games at home last weekend, defeating Arkansas State, 4-0, before dropping a 3-2 decision to No. 3 Oklahoma State. Memphis was ranked 14th in the NSCAA’s preseason poll, but lost its opening game at Missouri.
The Commodores and Lady Tigers met last year for the first time in 10 years, with Memphis earning a 2-0 victory in Nashville. Vanderbilt won a pair of games in 2000 and 2001 and holds a 2-1 edge in the series.
Following Thursday’s game, the Commodores will face their final non-conference test on Sunday, Sept. 9, traveling to Bowling Green, Ky., to take on Western Kentucky.
